Climate change vulnerability in remote indigenous communities
Current funding: IDRC Researchers involved at McGill: James Ford and Lea Berrang-Ford
This research is in development with an application in review at SSHRC. If funded, the project aims to identify and characterize the vulnerability of remote Indigenous communities to climate change and develop interventions to promote adaptation, focusing on natural hazards and resource management. The work involves case studies in the Peruvian Amazon (Shipibo communities), Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda (Batawa peoples), and the Canadian Arctic (Inuit). Pilot research to inform project development was completed in spring and summer 2010 involving trips to all 3 case study locations.
